Patoka Hills Chapter purchased a new
M9540 Kubota tractor in July 2010. The chapter was fortunate enough to receive
the QU-Kubota discount to make the purchase possible. Their new Kubota will
replace three older tractors previously used by the chapter. "The chapter
celebrated its 20th anniversary in the spring of 2010. What better way, than
with this tractor, to show our chapter sponsors, donors, contributors, and our
community what we are all about," said Jay Cox, chapter habitat coordinator.
The new M9540 was purchased through
Hopf Equipment in Huntingburg. Mike Hopf and Marcus Bueltel of Hopf Equipment
brought the new Kubota tractor to the August meeting. Those in attendance got to
take a look at the purchase firsthand.
The keys were passed from Bueltel to
Cletus Seifert, chapter habitat guru, to make the sale official. To commemorate
the date, Don Hemmerlein put the chapter's name and date of possession on the
side of the hood. After passing the keys, Bueltel discussed and demonstrated the
various functions of the tractor to chapter members who were present at the
meeting.
The Patoka Hills Chapter has always
been very active in conservation projects. "I'm sure Patoka Hills QU will put
their new Kubota tractor to good use improving wildlife habitat," said QU
Ag/Wildlife Services Director David Howell. They have done projects in
cooperation with the Hoosier National Forest that were made possible through
matching grant funds. They have also maintained DNR property adjacent to their
Cup Creek Property in Pike County since the early to mid-1990s; completed
projects on the Glendale Fish & Wildlife
Area, the IDNR property in Gibson County, the Vincennes University Jasper Center
property, and other projects in cooperation with the Dubois County SWCD office;
and worked on many habitat activities in conjunction with chapter landowners and
other private individuals.
